Lidl to stop selling disposable plastic products
Lidl Malta intends to remove all single-use disposable plastic products from its shelves. It will be doing this by phasing out the sale of plastic glasses, plates and cutlery from all of its Malta outlets by the end of next year.
In a statement, Lidl Malta said that these products will be exchanged with alternative recyclable items which the company is currently working on. It also explained that it would be removing and changing plastic cutlery and straws at its convenience and beverage sector.
The company is planning to sell the quantities of straws which it has already purchased and afterwards switch to alternative products.
The Regional Director of Lidl Malta, Mark Farrugia, said that the company is adopting a clear strategy to reduce the use of plastic, which is remove- reduce – recycle.
This decision is part of a wider strategy to reduce the use of plastic by 20% by the end of 2025.
